The Advanced Biological Therapy Unit (UTBA) is the area of MiKS Ospitalea Hospital where biological treatments are administered, primarily using platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a biomedical technology that harnesses the body’s own resources to stimulate the repair of damaged tissues and promote their regeneration. At the UTBA, the patient’s own blood serves as the therapeutic foundation for this approach, as PRP is obtained from an autologous blood sample to develop treatments designed to repair and regenerate injured tissues.
The UTBA performs these treatments on an outpatient basis within a fully equipped hospital setting, allowing the entire process—from blood collection and PRP preparation to treatment administration—to be managed in a single location. This ensures strict protocols for asepsis, safety, continuous medical supervision, and full traceability of the procedure, all tailored to each patient.
Additionally, when necessary, ultrasound-guided injections are used in collaboration between the orthopedics and radiology departments. This technique allows for more precise application of PRP to the affected area, improving the treatment’s effectiveness for complex injuries.
Thus, using biological techniques and minimally invasive approaches guided by imaging, injuries to joints, bones, tendons, muscles, and other tissues can be treated.
