Dr. Mikel Sánchez, scientific director and doctor of the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit (UCA) in Vithas San José Hospital (Vitoria- Gasteiz), has been awarded with the National Award for Arts and Sciences Applied to Sport 2014, given ex aequo with Dr. Eduardo Anitua, founder of BTI, laboratory that developed the Plasma Rich Growth Factor (PRGF © Endoret).
The distinction will be given on November 17 at the Royal Palace of El Pardo, Madrid, in a ceremony hosted by Their Majesties the Kings, who will be accompanied by Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Iñigo Mendez de Vigo and the president of the Superior Council of Sports, Miguel Cardenal.
Sánchez, who has been awarded for his contribution to promote and disseminate the physical-sportive activity in 2014, is graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bordeaux (France) and Basque Country University. He is also the founder, in addition to the UCA, of the first Biological Therapy Unit (UTB) in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Among his scientific merits stands out his pioneering work in the progress of arthroscopic surgery in Spain and Europe, and for being the first doctor to understand the therapeutic potential of growth factors in the different diseases of the locomotor system and developing protocols for its application in traumatology.
