After a period of excess and rest, it is very typical to set ourselves challenges for the New Year. Often among them is exercising, in order to lose the kilos we have gained over the Christmas holidays.
Regardless of the age of the athlete, if we are going to start doing sport for the first time or after a long period of inactivity, the best thing is to start walking, swimming or cycling, always gradually increasing the intensity.
The main idea of progressive adaptation to sport is to avoid muscle overload, which often leads to contractures, tendinitis or other overuse injuries.
Additionally, it is also highly recommended to warm up well before the activity to be carried out, thus performing wide joint movements and reducing static stretching. In addition, during the activity, in order to avoid more serious injuries, it is advisable to progressively increase the intensity of the load and the intensity of the training sessions in general.
