The problems surrounding infantile cerebral palsy and its functional recovery, by Dr. Monica Ursei

Last Friday, July 9, Dr. Monica Ursei, colleague of Dr. Gorka Knörr, worldwide reference surgeon and paediatric orthopaedist at the Toulouse University Hospital (France), director of the analysis unit of this hospital and head of the hospitalisation department of the Centre Paul Dottin in Romoville (St Agne), visited us both in the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit of Dr. Mikel Sánchez (UCA, according to the Spanish acronym) and in the Advanced Physiotherapy Unit (UFA, according to the Spanish acronym).

During her visit, we were able to learn about the problems surrounding infantile cerebral palsy (ICP) and its functional recovery. She presented interesting papers about biomechanical studies of the gait disturbance these children suffer from. At the same time, she showed us the excellent results of the minimally invasive surgical techniques, which show a clear gait improvement that is verified in the biomechanical controls.

She also highlighted the importance of creating multidisciplinary centres in order to provide specific recovery for these patients, emphasising the fundamental role specialised physiotherapy has.
